Forest Scene by sweetangel0467 Forest Scene by sweetangel0467
You can find the sketchfab post here: sweetangel0467.deviantart.com/…

And so the forest scene was painted! I am a dummy!
I ran into some time issues so there are some parts that didn't get the love they deserved.
Going to put this on the pile of "Refresh" together with a whole bunch of other stuff Grr.

Hope it still conveys the warmth of a sunset :D (Big Grin)

Model was given by teachers
5 texture maps around 512 each. Diffuse only
2070 triangles

Made with 3ds max 2014 & Photoshop CS6

hey that's really nice!

Can I ask how you made the uv maps? I'm having trouble doing uv maps on a house that I modeled in max, and I want to make 1 map for all the model. If you could give me a tip that would be great :D

Inspiring for me: I did and island with a monster and a house on it, but I didn't know how yo model the bottom part, I guess "your flying island style" would be a good way to deal with it ;)

It comes with time and practice ^^ I've been doing it almost consistently for the past 3 years.. so yeah ^^ Only got "good" at texturing about 1,5 years ago :)
I'd turn that jealousy into fuel for making more stuff ;) that sounds more optimistic :D

I got tired of modeling static stuff. I want to use it in an engine, and run around in my own little world. But i'm just the worst at trying to use ANY engine. So I've been stuck in 2D using RPG maker XP since the dawn of time, because its easy.

Unity is always free and pretty easy. Not too heavy on your pc either. Scripting wise I would recommend UDK though.. it's just super easy to put triggers and animations in there ^^ but it's a lot heavier on your pc :/ Both have a lot of tutorials and documentation ;)

I get what you mean with static :D everything is much more interesting when it's moving or has sfx and particles ^^

I really love this piece because it reminds me of games I played years ago.  This art style has a timeless feel which will make it feel fresh even years from now.  Creating timeless art speaks volume and quality!!

Hey, looks really cool - you nailed the style. May I ask if it is all one mesh, or could the objects be re-used as components in a larger scene? (I'm just curious...)

Our teacher unwrapped it so it's not really optimised for an engine if that's what you mean. They are unwrapped in 5 different textures:
The mushrooms and the dead tree are 1 texture,
the water falling to the side is in the texture of the trees.. ^^;
The platform is 1 texture (grass and rocks)
the alpha foliage is another texture..
And then all the stones in another.

So it is kind of optimized to get alpha channels in 2 textures (trees & foliage)
But other then that I would never make it this way if it was for an engine.

I'm kind of glad they gave us an unwrapped mesh (saves time)
But on the other hand, the unwrap was pretty shitty (I redid most of it) and I can't fully claim it as my own :P

wow, this is SO IMPRESSIVE! I absolutely love the chunky approach you tackled it with. The depth looks amazing. The transition between the water and the waterfall is a little obvious, maybe next time you could go for this kinda shiny transition done here:
upload.habboi.co.uk/waterfall.…
but yeah this really looks warm and cozy.
Now i have something else to add to my inspiration folder :D

hehe :D About that waterfall.. you're totally right :P I changed the opacity so it would become more see through.. but it ended up just making the whole thing brighter  guess I'll know that for next time..

It means I made this without a normal, spec and gloss map. So all the shadows and highlights are handpainted to create a fake feeling of depth.
